This backstory covers her childhood to the moment she returns to school under the tutelage of her new guardian, Scars.

Jay is one of the current cycle of Reapers, created about 600 years ago. She's supposed to be an emotionless tool, created for the sole purpose of putting souls into humans at birth and reaping those souls when humans die - including guiding the soul to the afterlife. Something went wrong with Jay's creation process, however. She does have emotions, but they're rather muted, and the few strong emotions she has, she pushes down and hides for her own safety. She and her siblings know that any "human traits" or "weaknesses" will be "corrected" by their creator, Father Time, and that "correction" is death. As a Reaper, she doesn't feel temperature or anything below extreme pain, and thus she tends to be pretty stone-faced in most situations. However, she perks up and usually goofs around with her friend, Jack Frost, and has an obsession with candy. She's also very close with a few of her siblings, who are flawed in the same way that she is: they're all too human.
This backstory covers her creation to the start of Rise of the Guardians (2012).
