Well, good for you, I guess you moved on really easily

You found a new girl, and it only took a couple weeks.

Gwen sang as she changed into her pajamas in the hotel bathroom, glad that she and Jade had similar music tastes. When she’d last seen the other girl, Jade had been bouncing on the hotel bed, throwing wild kicks and punches to practice her best moves. The Daemon Ritus had sat on the hotel room’s desk, awaiting the two’s future poking and prodding. Kim had just stepped out for a brief goodnight kiss with Ron.

Once Gwen finished putting on her pale blue-and-white plaid pajamas, she stepped back into the hotel room proper.

Jade grinned brightly at her, now sitting cross-legged on the edge of one large bed. Gwen smiled back, a little shyly. She was still trying to decide how to handle her relationship with someone who had such a big crush on her cousin, Ben, but Jade was a good person. Surely the two would get along great.

Kim walked back into the room as the two looked at each other and tilted her head.

“You two okay?” She asked, bemused.

Gwen and Jade shared another look. Then they laughed.

Whatever awkwardness had been there before was gone now, soothed over by their idol’s presence in the room.

The three sat together on one bed in a circle, all facing each other. Gwen wanted to discuss the Daemon Ritus and for a time, they did — Jade pointed out the possibility that it could bestow powerful abilities, like the 12 Talismans, if they could figure out how to activate it, while Gwen and Kim discussed the strange markings on the artifact. Could it be another language, maybe?

“Maybe if you just twist it like this–” Jade suggested, mimicking a twisting motion with both hands, like taking off a bottle cap.

“No way, Jade, we might break something!” Gwen huffed.

Kim looked over at the Daemon Ritus, still sitting on the hotel desk. She stared at it for a minute, then shook her head. “I’ll ask Wade more about it tomorrow. Hey, Jade, could you tell us more about these twelve Talismans instead?”

Jade couldn’t help but grin. Talking about the Talismans was one of her favorite things.

“Let me tell you a story, girls, of how we hunted down some of the most powerful artifacts in all of Chinese history…”

After a solid forty minutes of this, Kim clapped her hands together. Oliva Rodrigo’s Good For U had finally looped back around on the playlist, and the older girl grinned.

“Have I ever told you two how much love this song?” She started to laugh as she talked, bouncing to her feet on the bed.

“C’mon, get up!” Kim encouraged, offering a hand to each of the younger girls. “Let’s dance!”

Jade took Kim’s hand first, while Gwen hesitated just a moment. Kim was so awe-inspiring, it was hard not to feel a little shy in front of her idol. Still, she took the teen’s hand and hopped to her feet on the bed. The three broke into a dance that almost seemed choreographed — each of them twisted and swayed and bobbed to the music, always in time with the others.

When the song was over, it was Jade’s turn to grin.

“I’ve got another idea…” She said with just a hint of deviousness before grabbing one of the large, fluffy pillows that lay at the top of the bed.

Gwen hardly had a moment to ask “What–” before one of those pillows whacked her in the middle, making her collapse onto the mattress with a surprised laugh.

“Oh, you’re not getting away with that!” The redhead jumped back up, nimbly moving around the swinging Jade to grab for another pillow. All she needed to do was wait for the right moment and…whap! Gwen had bopped Jade on the head!

The shorter girl laughed uproariously, delighted by Gwen’s fighting spirit. Neither girl noticed Kim, who had a pillow in each hand.

The pillow fight ended in a two-way tie, while Kim had clearly taken first place. All three girls collapsed on the bed with tired laughter, pillows and stuffing strewn about the hotel room. There might have been a mystery afoot, but tonight, things were good.
